In the eighteenth century and in the first decade of the nineteenth century, San Miguel was a mercantile, industrial, and agricultural center of great importance.
In the year 1950, San Miguel de Allende became a tourist spot known for its beautiful colonial architecture, its temperate climate, and its thermal springs, hence the reason many foreigners adopt this city to retire and settle here.
San Miguel Allende was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the category of cultural heritage under the name of Historic City.
